ARCHIVES: Reopening of Our Schools Community Meetings

The Monterey Peninsula Unified School District initiated an internal Task Force to begin exploring the reopening of our schools in the 2020-21 school year based on the new guidelines released from the California Department of Education and the California Department of Public Health. The guidelines require schools to consider hybrid schedules in order to limit the total number of students on campus at one time and ensure that students are kept at least 6 feet apart where practical.  MPUSD held four community Town Hall meetings to provide information, answer questions and to hear input from families.

Monterey County Herald: Guest Editorial PK Diffenbaugh: State Budget Must Reflect Our Values: Invest in Schools

Educators will be forced to overcome this budget challenge — offering services despite the lack of adequate resources. We shouldn’t have to. It is a reflection of our societal values that we continue to underfund our schools while relying on them to be the primary institution responsible for meeting the needs of our most vulnerable populations. Principal's Message

July 31, 2019

Dear George C. Marshall Elementary School Students, Families, and Community Members,

On behalf of Marshall Elementary School, I want to extend a warm welcome to the 2019-20 school year! We are entering the year full of positive energy and enthusiasm and cannot wait to support the growth and development of each and every one of our students. Whether you are a new Marshall family, or a returning family, I invite you to match our enthusiasm and bring your energy to the table right alongside us. This year our community is committed to learning with the spirit, courage, and curiosity of a Mustang!

At Marshall, we prepare and guide our learners to bring a STEM approach to the challenges of an everchanging world. Our scholars develop and investigate curiosities, and explore them in an emotionally and physically safe environment. Our learning community embraces challenge and enjoys learning. Each student can attain academic and social success through the collaboration and commitment of our students, teachers, parents, and community.

Quality relationships are a key component to the individual progress of students and the overall success of our learning community. Our relationship with your student as well as your entire family is a priority for the entire Marshall staff. It is imperative to us as a learning institute that each person who comes through our doors knows that they are part of this community, and that they play an important role in the education of the students who attend Marshall. This community is essential to the positive and supportive environment that is necessary in our efforts to create the ideal learning platform for our students.

Marshall teachers and staff continue to be dedicated the development of our school wide STEM focus. It is our mission to prepare our students for the world we live in by developing not only knowledge, but the skills and dispositions they will need to be leading members of our society. This concept not only builds the foundation of learning experiences for our students, but it is also at the center of planning and development for our teachers, staff, and leadership. We strive for the continued growth of our entire community, and pride ourselves on modeling this growth mindset to our students.

It is with this mindset and great excitement that we look forward to the 2019-2020 school year!  Should you have questions, please feel free to contact me by phone or email at any time.

Respectfully,
Robin Connery
