Important Update: School Volunteer Process Has Changed for 2026–2027

Dear Marshall Families,

We are so excited to welcome parent volunteers back to campus this year! Whether you hope to volunteer in the classroom, help with school events, or chaperone a field trip, we are grateful for your partnership.

Please note: The volunteer approval process has changed for the 2026–2027 school year.

It is essential that all volunteers complete the new approval process before attempting to volunteer on campus or attend a field trip. Because approval takes time, we strongly encourage you to complete these steps as soon as possible rather than waiting until a volunteer opportunity arises.

Volunteer Approval Steps

Please complete the following steps in the order listed below:

Step 1: Complete the California Mandated Reporter Training

Follow the district directions to complete the required Mandated Reporter Training.

Step 2: Submit Your Training Certificate

Once you have completed the training:

Step 3: TB Clearance 

  • Provide evidence of a recent clear TB test or TB Risk Assessment form completed by Health Care Provider(EC 49406, AR1240).
  • TB results or Risk Assessment must be within the last 6 months.  
  • Volunteers cleared with TB during 25/26 will not need to submit

Step 4: Visit Marshall Elementary

Bring the following to the school office:
  • A valid photo ID
  • Your printed training certificate (if you did not email it ahead of time)
  • Your TB Clearance (A Recent Clear TB Test or TB Risk Assessment Form Completed by Health Care Provider)
While you're here, you will complete the required Volunteer Application.

Step 5: School Review & Submission

Once your paperwork is complete, Marshall Elementary will submit your volunteer packet for district processing and approval.

Step 6: Make a Fingerprint Appointment with MPUSD HR Department. 

This is done directly following your application submission and will be paired with your paperwork for approval. 


Step 7: Approval Process

There is nothing further you need to do while your application is being processed.
We will contact you only if there is an issue with your application or if additional information is needed.

Don't Wait!

Volunteer approvals are not immediate and may take time to process. Completing these steps now will ensure you are ready when classroom opportunities, special events, or field trips become available.

Due to updated state requirements, there is a new volunteer process. I posted this back on August 6th, and there has been an additional requirement of Negative TB test or clear risk assessment completed by health care provider, so please make sure to review the document again. It is important to do this paperwork now, and not wait until a field trip is upon us.
